MaineCare, Maine's Medicaid program, also includes Maine's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which provides the same MaineCare coverage benefits to children under 18 in families with a higher income range. The program was formerly known as Cub Care.
To be eligible for Main Care, you must be a resident of the state of Maine. Coverage is also available to pregnant women with gross monthly family income below specified limits.
There are no waiting periods from the date of prior health insurance termination.

Premium Payments, Co-Payments and Coinsurance
Premium payments are based on your income level and there is no cost for most families. Some families must pay a small monthly premium for their children's coverage, but not more than $8 to $64 a month. Also dependent on income level are the co-payments that must be paid for certain covered medical expenses. Most families will pay no co-payments, and those in higher income levels will have minimal co-payments for some services.
Program Length, Enrollment and Renewal
Enrollment in MaineCare lasts for 12 months. You may renew your coverage if you still meet the eligibility requirements and a renewal notice will be mailed 60 days prior to renewal.
