West Virginia Children's Health Insurance Program (WVCHIP)
Eligibility Requirements
The West Virginia Children's Health Insurance Program is available to children and teens through the age of 18. To be eligible for the program you must reside in the state of West Virginia and not currently have health insurance nor have had health insurance in the past six months. You may not be eligible for the West Virginia State Employee Health Insurance – PEIA nor may you be eligible for West Virginia Medicaid. Families must meet WVCHIP income guidelines. You must be a United States citizen or qualified alien.
Waiting Periods
There is a waiting period of six months from the termination date of prior health insurance coverage that was terminated voluntarily. Exceptions may apply to this waiting period.

Health Plan Options
The same health plan is available to all eligible members, regardless of geographical location within West Virginia. Acordia National is the third party administrator for WVCHIP.
Premium Payments, Co-Payments and Coinsurance
Premiums are determined by family income and size of family. There are no deductibles or coinsurance associated with this plan. There are 2 co-payment levels based on family income and size, which determines their classification. Group A only has co-payments of $5 for brand name drugs. Group B has a $10 brand drug co-payment and a $15 office visit co-pay when being treated for an illness. Other co-payments may apply to Group B members.
Program Length, Enrollment and Renewal
The duration of the WVCHIP coverage is one year. Enrollment must be renewed prior to termination of coverage and may be done by contacting the local county DHHR office or completing a renewal form that will review your eligibility.
