In every state there are many companies that offer medical insurance to individuals or families that do not have access to group health insurance.
Individual and Family health insurance, also known as personal or private health insurance, can be purchased by any person that meets the underwriting and acceptance guidelines of the insurance companies. In every state there are many companies that offer medical insurance to individuals or families that do not have access to group health insurance. Some of these more commonly known companies include Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Humana, Kaiser Permanente, HealthNet, UnitedHealth and Cigna. Unlike group health insurance, this type of coverage is not “guaranteed issue.” Essentially, this means that the insurance companies can be selective about whom they insure. This is a very important factor in determining if this is a viable option for yourself and/or your dependents, so let’s take a moment to provide you with a better understanding of how this works.
