Insurance for Exchange Student

I have a question about my insurance. I have Korean and american citizenships. Until, last year, I was in Korea, and I just came here this year to study. I think I am going to stay until college, so i am looking for the insurance. My all family still live in Korea and I live with my guardians. So, can you tell me about the insurance that is good for me, and how much it will cost.

We do not actually sell insurance through our agency, but we can assist you in looking in the right direction for health insurance. I have a couple of questions that will better help me to let you know what kind of health insurance you need to look for. 1) What is your age? 2) When will you be starting college? 3) Will you be attending college in the U.S.? and 4) are you currently being treated for any medical conditions?

There are many different type of health insurance (personal, short-term, student and international) that offer different levels of coverage at different rates. The type of health insurance you need to obtain will be based on your answers to the questions above.

  1. I am 17 and I am on a student exchange program but I think I will stay longer to go to college. If I stay until college that will start in September of 2007. It will be a U.S. college. I do not have any medical problems.

  2. If the people whom you live with in the U.S. are your legal guardians, they should have the legal capacity to sign an application for health insurance on your behalf. At age 17, you are not able to sign a contract for health insurance. Depending on how long you have been out of the country, you should be able to find an individual health plan in your state that will provide you with coverage. You may be required to get a physical exam if you have not recently received medical treatment in the U.S. The insurance company will want to verify that you are in good health, and this will be hard for them to do if all of your recent health care was received in Korea.

Once you start college you will be able to get student health insurance. This may be offered through the university that you choose to attend

  3. Is it safe for a high school student to go to the United States on a student exchange and how do we find health insurance for him? Our son has been offered to participate in a student exchange program for his senior year in high school. We live in Germany were we have a different system. But the main concern we have is that it may be dangerous for him to go since there is no public health care system and private insurance is very expensive. Then if he decides to stay on for college, which he would like to do, will he be able to get college health insurance as a foreigner? What options do students have for getting health insurance in the United States. Are we better of buying expensive long term travel health insurance from home or can he buy when he gets there?

  4. I have a question regarding a friend of the family who is an exange student from Colombia. While going to school in USA, she was diagnosed with brain cancer. The family does not know what to do. It looks like the medical insurance is expiring in a couple of weeks. Can they extend the policy or what can they do to get informed about their options?
