Out-of-Network With Senior Dimensions

Q: If my mother lives with me in California for several months out of the year will she is covered under her senior dimensions insurance coverage in Nevada for her prescriptions or medical care if something happened while she was with me and had to get emergency help? If not what would you suggest she do to have coverage while she is with me?

A: Senior Dimensions in Nevada has a few different Medicare Advantage plans, and the out-of-network restrictions appear to vary slightly on each of these. It would also seem that their restrictions are becoming more lenient for 2007. If you go to the Using Your Benefits page of the Senior Dimensions website, you will see the various plan options listed on the right hand side. There is a 2006 version and a 2007 version for each of the plans listed. Each of these plan descriptions briefly touches on the out-of-network limitations, but they are fairly vague. For a clearer understanding, it is probably best to contact Senior Dimensions directly at 1-800-650-62632.

You are likely to find that her out-of-network benefits are very limited. If she spends the majority of the year with you in California, you might want to consider making your home her permanent address and transferring her coverage to a California Medicare Advantage plan. There may be some Advantage plans that provide her with greater freedom in receiving benefits in multiple states. You will first need to speak to Senior Dimensions to find out for certain if her current coverage meets her occassional out-of-state needs.
