Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for South Dakota CHIP, a child must be under the age of 19 and reside in the state of South Dakota. They must also not currently be covered by health insurance or eligible for Medicaid and a US citizen or legal resident. The family income must fall within the guidelines, which are based on 200% of the federal poverty level.
Waiting Periods
For information on possible waiting periods associated with the date of previously cancelled health insurance, contact South Dakota CHIP directly. There may be no waiting periods that apply to your situation. Persons that have recently had group health insurance may need to wait three months from the termination date of that prior coverage.
