RIte Care

RIte Care, a part of the Rhode Island Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid), provides health coverage to eligible uninsured pregnant women, parents, and children up to age 19 who meet the income requirements.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for RIte Care, children must be reside within the state of Rhode Island. The family must meet income guidelines that are based on 185% to 250% of the federal poverty level.

Waiting Periods
There is no waiting period for those eligible for RIte Care benefits.

  • Laboratory and X-ray
  • Prescription Drugs
  • Dental Services
  • Vision Care

  • Transportation services

Health Plan Options
There are three health plans participating in the RIte Care program. They are provided through United Healthcare of New England, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of RI. All three plans with the three health care providers are HMO plans.

Premium Payments, Co-Payments and Coinsurance
Monthly premiums and co-payments are nominal and are based on the family income. Families may have to pay monthly premium of $0, $61, $77, or $92 depending on their income.

Program Length, Enrollment and Renewal
Enrollment in the RIte Care program is temporary coverage lasting for periods of up to 12 months. You may renew your coverage prior to expiration by completing a renewal application and proving that you still meet the eligibility and income requirements.
