New Mexi Kids

New Mexi kids is no cost or low cost health coverage for uninsured New Mexico children under 19 years old and whose family income meet specific guidelines.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for New Mexi Kids, children must be reside in the state of New Mexico must also be a US citizen or legal U.S. resident and fall within the income guidelines set forth by the program. Income requirements are based on 235% of the federal poverty level. New Mexi Kids uses a presumptive eligibility policy and your coverage will begin as soon as the application is receive. Coverage will be terminated if it is found that the child is not eligible after the completion of the application review.

Waiting Periods
There may be waiting periods or a reduction in benefits for children that are currently covered by other health insurance. Contact New Mexi Kids for additional information.

New Mexi Kids provides health care benefits for:

  • Regular check-ups

Health Plan Options
Families wishing to enroll their children in New MexiKids may choose from four Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to provide their medical services. These MCOs are Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, Lovelace Community Health Plan, Molina Healthcare and Presbyterian Health Plan. Premium Payments, Co-Payments and Coinsurance
Premiums and co-payments are determined by income guidelines. Children with family incomes under 185% of the federal poverty level will have no premiums or co-payments. Children in families that have income 185% to 235% of the federal poverty level may have minimal co-payments for certain covered services. Some preventive services such as immunizations do not require a co-payment regardless of household income levels.

Program Length, Enrollment and Renewal
New Mexi kids offers 12 months of continuous coverage. Prior to the termination date of your health plan, you will be required to submit a renewal application that will be used to review your current eligibility status.
