Missouri HealthNet for Kids

MO HealthNet for Kids provides health coverage to uninsured children under the age of 19 and whose family income falls within certain guidelines.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, the uninsured children must live in Missouri and be a U.S. citizen or eligible qualified non-citizen.

The monthly net family income does not exceed the following:

  • 185% FPL for children under age 1
  • 133% FPL for ages 1-5
  • 100% FPL for ages 6-18

Uninsured children whose income is over the above limits, and whose monthly gross family income is under 150% FPL, are also eligible.

Waiting Periods
Normally coverage will begin 30 days after the application is approved. If the family was previously covered by a health plan, they will have to wait 6 months after the previous coverage has ceased. There can be exceptions to the rule and it is advised you contact MO HealthNet for Kids to determine your waiting period.

Covered Services and Benefits
MO HealthNet for Kids provides health care benefits for:

  • Primary, acute and preventive care
  • Occupational and speech therapy
  • Pharmacy
  • Sports physicals
  • Medical equipment and supplies
  • Lab and x-ray
  • Dental
  • Vision care
  • Behavioral services such as outpatient counseling and inpatient psychiatric treatment
  • Hospital care
  • Home and community-based services such as nursing and personal care

Health Plan Options
All children enrolled in MO HealthNet for Kids will receive the same level of coverage. Some families will choose coverage through a health plan in their area; others will receive care from approved providers. The MO HealthNet plans are managed care health plans and require the selection of a primary care physician.

Premium Payments, Co-Payments and Coinsurance
Depending on the family income, monthly premiums may be required. Families will pay no more than 5% of their annual income for premiums in a year. Families will no longer be required to pay premiums for the rest of the year if their out of pocket expenses exceed their premiums. Co-payments may be required for some covered services.

Program Length, Enrollment and Renewal
The program runs continuously until the age of 19. In case, a family experiences a change in income, or family size, they must contact MO HealthNet for Kids for an adjustment to the monthly premium.
