Children's Health Insurance Program (Idaho)

Children's Access Card

Children's Access Card, a premium assistance program administered in partnership with Idaho insurance carriers, offers help to the eligible children of working families who meet specific income requirements. Basically, this program pays a certain amount of premium to help parents to purchase an employer-sponsored plan or an individual health insurance plan for their children.

Idaho CHIP is designed to provide health coverage to children under 19 whose families earn too much to be eligible for Medicaid. CHIP-A insures children directly through Medicaid Basic or Enhanced Plan. CHIP-B offers limited health care coverage to children whose families come between 150% and 185% of FPL.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for coverage, your child must be an Idaho resident or a legal immigrant. Children in families whose income is between 133% and 185% of federal poverty guidelines may be eligible to receive the premium assistance.

The Idaho CHIP-B program contains the following benefits:

  • Doctors Visits
  • Preventative services such as check-ups, shots, etc
  • Hospital Care
  • Prescription drugs
  • Lab work & X-rays
  • Vision care, including screening and eyeglasses
  • Dental care
  • Mental health care
  • Emergency room services

Health Plan Options
Children's Access Card provides premium assistance to uninsured eligible children through private health insurance providers.

Premium Payments, Co-Payments and Coinsurance
Under Children's Access Card, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare pays up to $100 per month per child with a maximum of $300 per month to help parents buy an employer-sponsored plan or an individual health insurance plan. However, parents are responsible to pay remaining premium, any co-payments or deductibles for the health plan.

Depending on the family income, Idaho CHIP coverage may be free or cost up to $15.00 per child per month.
