Georgia PeachCare for Kids
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for coverage under PeachCare you must be under the age of 19 and a citizen of the United States or a qualified legal resident. Children that have existing health insurance coverage are not eligible. Your family's income has to be lower than the allowable maximum level for the size of your family, which is based on 235% of the federal poverty level. Your child must not have the option to be covered under an employer sponsored group plan or be a dependent of a State of Georgia employee.
Waiting Periods
There is a six month waiting period from the date of termination of prior group health insurance coverage if it was terminated voluntarily. This waiting period does not apply for children who were covered under private insurance. There is a one month waiting period for reinstatement if a family fails to pay the monthly premium.
Covered Services and Benefits
The Peach Care for Kids program contains the following benefits:
- Care from a doctor when necessary
- Preventative services such as check-ups, shots, etc
- Specialist care
- Hospital Care
- Prescription drugs
- Lab work & X-rays
- Vision care, including screening and eyeglasses
- Dental care
- Mental health care
- Emergency room services and ambulance services
Health Plan Options
There is one plan available that offers the same level of benefits to all eligible members.
Premium Payments, Co-Payments and Coinsurance
There is no cost to children under the age of 5. Currently the cost per month for PeachCare for Kids coverage is $10 to $35 for one child and a maximum of $70 for two or more children living in the same household. There are no co-payments or coinsurance required for covered medical services when using a PeachCare provider.
Program Length, Enrollment and Renewal
Enrollment length for the Peach Care for Kids program is for 12 months. Coverage may be renewed and prior to renewal you will need to complete a new application. You will be mailed an application 60 days prior to the termination date on current enrollment period.
