PacifiCare of California Added Benefits
Besides having access to a wide variety of health plan choices offering comprehensive coverage and access to a large network of participating providers, PacifiCare plan members receive added benefits through various non-insurance related services. These are provided through an arrangement with PacifiCare and third party companies or providers.
Customer Services and Support
Through an arrangement with American Medical Security (AMS), PacifiCare members receive immediate and friendly customer service. AMS is a part of the UnitedHealth Care insurance family, of which PacifiCare is also a subsidiary. Customer service representatives will assist PacifiCare members with questions about their plan benefits, claims questions and premium payment options. An AMS customer service rep is also available to help you find participating PacifiCare providers in your area.
24-Hour NurseLine and Audio Library
Providing answers to your questions for many different medical conditions, you can speak with a registered nurse at anytime of the day or night. You may use this service for general questions, or speak with a nurse if you have symptoms or an illness and are uncertain if you should seek immediate care from a physician or urgent care facility. When calling this 24 hour toll free number, you will be given the option to access the health care audio library that will provide you with pre-recorded messages that address may different health topics, including smoking cessation tips and weight-loss suggestions.
TravelCare
When traveling in the United States, you may see and licensed health care professional. Your share of cost may be higher if you use a non-contracted provider. When traveling outside of your plan's service area and you are in need of medical treatment, you can contact AMS customer service for a list of network providers in that area. This service will provide you with access to the immediate care you need, while keeping you within your health plans benefit levels.
