AmeriGroup Corporation

History

AmeriGroup Corporation was founded in 1994 in response to a growing need for private sector partners to administer and provide health benefits to public health care programs. Today, AmeriGroup serves more than 1.5 million members throughout Ohio, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and the District of Columbia. Recognized as a leading provider of health benefits to low-income families and individuals with disabilities, AmeriGroup has become the largest publicly traded company whose focus is exclusive to the health care needs of Medicaid recipients and the uninsured.

Insurance Plans & Coverage

Products offered through AmeriGroup include AmeriCaid, a family oriented managed health care product offered to low-income families in need of temporary medical assistance; AmeriKids, a product designed for children whose families are not eligible for Medicaid but who are not able to afford medical insurance within the private sector. AmeriKids is offered through the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP); AmeriPlus designed as a managed care product offered to individuals eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits; AmeriFam, a product designed to provide benefits to uninsured adults and parents of SCHIP recipients or children eligible for Medicaid; and AmeriVantage, a managed care product designed as a Special Needs Plan for dual eligible Medicare and Medicaid Recipient.

As committed as AmeriGroup is to providing its members with innovative, comprehensive health care benefits, AmeriGroup is equally as committed to giving back to the communities it serves. It does so through the AmeriGroup Foundation whose purpose is to create healthy communities and improving the health and well-being of low-income and uninsured Americans. Founded in 1996, the AmeriGroup Foundation has actively sought to pursue this goal by focusing on three key issues: providing and promoting access to quality health care; providing and promoting safe and healthy environments for children and their families; and by the promotion of community improvement and healthy neighborhoods. By focusing on these three areas, AmeriGroup believes that it can make a difference in the lives of the people who reside within the communities AmeriGroup serves. In addition to sponsoring children and enabling them to attend summer camp, hosting community health fairs, and providing for the less fortunate during the holidays, the AmeriGroup Foundation provides annual grants to organizations that provide and promote the ideals set forth by the Foundation.
