Eighty years ago a lone insurance salesman in Wisconsin, struggling to feed his family, came up with a strategy to market auto insurance to farmers, a community that would pose less risk in their overall coverage. Believing in his idea, Herman Wittwer opened Farmers Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in October of 1927. Wittwer's strategy paid off and the company began to grow. As the company grew, so too did the needs of its customer base and soon Farmers Mutual Automobile Insurance Company was forced to begin expansion of its product line. In 1963, Farmers Mutual became American Family Mutual Insurance Company. Today, American Family Mutual offers a line of insurance products in 18 states, which includes automobile, property, life, health, business and farm insurance products. Annuities and consumer loans are also offered through American Family Life Insurance Company.
Although not all products are available in all states, American Family Life Insurance Company is proud to offer its line of health products in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, and Washington. Included in its line of health products offered within these states are Major Medical Health Insurance Plans, High Deductible Health Plans which are HSA qualified, Short Term Health Plans and Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans. American Family Life Insurance Company does not limit its members to a specific network of providers, but rather allows its members to choose their own doctor and healthcare facilities to better meet their health care needs.
