Could you recommend a list of top health insurance companies? I’m looking at purchasing an insurance plan, but I’m not quite sure which company to buy from.
Most of the top insurance companies listed are probably present in your state, in one name or another. The BlueCross BlueShield Association (BCBS) for example is basically a franchiser; its franchisees are all over the country. WellPoint is actually the largest member of BCBS. Under its BCBS license, WellPoint provides plans in several states while covering other parts of the country under the Unicare name. The companies I listed offer a wide array of health insurance services and plans, including Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Point-of-Service (POS) Plans, Indemnity Insurance, and Fee-For-Service Plans, among others. Also, they generally offer Medicare and Medicaid plans.. You can probably tell that some of their services differ from one state to another and sometimes, customer opinion of the companies varies depending on what state you’re in. That said, most people would probably disagree with my list of top health insurance companies, though you’d probably find the health insurance you want from the companies I mentioned. In my opinion, the top health insurance companies include Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, CIGNA, UnitedHealth, and WellPoint. Those companies are probably the largest and they get the sizeable market shares.
