I am in need of short term medical coverage between school and a new job. There is a 2 month window currently that I will not be covered until the new job insurance kicks in. Since I am an expecting father, it looks like several agencies want to deny me. I’ve read other responses on this site regarding this issue, but logically I am still confused for 2 reasons: a) The baby will still be in uterus when the short term insurance lapses, and b) I am not asking for coverage for them. Please advise? I am willing to pay a high premium if needed…I would think the odds would be in the insurance companies favor…
I understand that you are only requiring 60 days of coverage, but there could still be a potential risk with a premature birth. You might try contacting a short-term health insurance carrier directly and ask if there is a way to bypass the standard application process and submit through an underwriter for review, but we doubt they will be very receptive since it is outside of standard protocol. Are you coming off a student health plan for which you are no longer eligible? Does your wife have group health coverage that you might be able to join?
