What affordable senior insurance plans are there in the market today? Senior citizens today need more health care than ever, and they don’t have any coverage from employer-sponsored insurance policies. What may be the options for senior citizens with regards to their healthcare coverage?

Senior insurance in the US is covered by Medicare. Medicare covers the healthcare needs of people who are 65 years old and above.

Senior insurance through Medicare can be in parts. Senior citizens are automatically enrolled in Part A once they turn 65, assuming they have paid into Medicare during their years of employment. However, they still need to submit an application.

Medicare Part A covers hospitalization expenses, and additional expenses that are related to follow-up visits to the doctor after being hospitalized. Part A also pays for outpatient medical services such as home health care, physical therapy, and the use of medical equipment and supplies.

Medicare Part B is an optional senior insurance program. If you choose to enroll in Part B, you are required to pay a monthly premium and a deductible amount every year. Part B pays for some outpatient services, which may not be covered under Part A, doctors’ visits, the use of medical equipment, and medical tests.

There is also Medicare Parts C and D. Part C are Medicare Advantage plans that are arranged through private health insurance companies, and Part D is prescription drug coverage. These senior insurance programs pay for the medications prescribed to senior citizens. To enroll in Medicare Parts C and D, however, will require the senior citizens to pay additional premiums.

There is also the MediGap coverage, which are private health insurance plans that senior citizens can buy. MediGap policies pay for the healthcare needs of senior citizens that are not usually covered under Medicare. MediGap policies may pay for the co-insurance in your doctors’ visits or hospitalization expenses. It may also pay for the deductible amount required in Medicare Part B. To be able to buy a MediGap policy, the senior citizen must be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B.

To learn more about senior insurance through Medicare and MediGap, it might be best to check websites that compare the quotes of different health insurance companies. This way, you can find the most affordable senior insurance plans available in the market today.
