I am looking to get insurance for 2 people; myself and my significant other. We are not married, but we live under the same roof and he a student and my dependent financially. I have claimed him on my taxes for the last 2 years and I am his sole support. So my question is are able to purchase insurance together as spouses or are we required to purchase separately? I would prefer one bill that is why I am asking.

Thank you for your inquiry. In the state of California, all insurance companies offering individual health insurance must allow domestic partners to be insured jointly on the same policy. I am assuming that if you have included your significant other on your tax returns that you are registered domestic partners. If not, then you will need to purchase two separate health plans and receive two separate bills.

  1. A lot of the Health Insurance Carriers in CA will let you combined 2 or 3 policies on to one bill. Its an easy form to complete. But by the sounds of it, you should be able to all go on the same Health Plan. Please let me know if you need any free quotes
