I am on medicare now. Can I subscribe to my company’s health plan, in order for my wife to get coverage? I am 71. My wife is 62

The only way to include your wife on your group policy would for you to also enroll and add her as a dependent to your policy. You will need to determine if the costs in doing so justify the goal of making sure that she has health insurance.  You will want to compare and exhaust alternatives, such as obtaining for her an individual health insurance plan, or even looking at high-risk pool options in your state if she is uninsurable under a personal health plan. You will also want to consider that if she does require immediate medical care, there will likely be waiting periods for treatment of any pre-existing medical conditions.

  1. In most areas if you do decide to go on your employers health plan you would stay on medicare also. Because both would be sharing the costs of your care you would pay a much lower premium for your portion of the coverage. This could help offset the higher price than an individual policy if your wife does not qualify.
