Remaining on CHIP After Getting Additional Insurance

IF YOU HAVE CHIP COVERAGE FOR YOUR CHILDREN AND YOU GET A JOB THAT OFFERS INSURANCE FOR THE FAMILY BUT WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF CURRENT TREATMENT WILL YOU LOSE CHIP COVERAGE?

The CHIP eligibility requirements vary from one state to the next. In most cases, you can remain on CHIP in this situation, but you will need to check with your state CHIP provider to confirm this. Or, reply to this email and let us know who your CHIP provider is, and what state, and we can try to research it for you.

  1. COULD YOU PLEASE CHECK ON THE REQUIREMENTS IN THE STATE OF MONTANA?
MY GRANDSON IS SEEING A THERAPIST AND THE INSURANCE HIS MOTHER IS ELIGBLE FOR WILL NOT COVER THE COST.

  2. Montana CHIP lasts for 12 months before review of eligibility is required again. According to the Montana CHIP website, a child can remain on the plan, even if they have group health insurance available to them, as long as neither parent is employed by the State of Montana or the Montana University system. If the child is enrolled on the group plan as a dependent, they will no longer be eligible for CHIP. However, if this new job increases the family income, the child could lose coverage through Montana CHIP at the 12 month review process if the family income exceeds the Montana CHIP eligibility guidelines
