Do Not Qualify for Low Income Plan. Please Help.

I am a family of four only one parent is working my husband was laid off, one income coming in for food and other bills, we were covered under him for health insurance but none of us has any. I did not go to my doctors app. over two years l have a lump on my breast which l used to do my mammogram every six months, l have problems with my leg and foot, blood pressure is high and the list goes on. I can not afford health insurance for myself and family can some one help me to go about getting some kind of insurance for my family and l. Husky said my medical bills have to be over $6,000 over before they can help. Out of my weekly check they are taking out medicare. Can someone please help.

We are not familiar with the medical bills requirement under the Husky program. Apparently, your family income is too high to qualify for the Husky A (full medicaid) program, so they are providing you with an option for health care assistance under a subsidy program. Medicaid funding is limited and usually only available to families that are 100% below the federal poverty level.

If you have already contacted your state medicaid program for assistance, your other options may be limited. You might consider enrolling your children in the Husky program and then consider alternatives to insure yourself and your husband. The cost of insuring them should be minimal and something you should definitely do, even if you can’t get insurance for yourself.

If you have group health insurance through your employer, perhaps you and your husband can join that health plan and apply for the financial assistance program to help pay the premiums. With your list of pre-existing conditions, it would be difficult to find and insurance company offering individual health insurance that will approve your application and accept you for coverage. A group health plan is guaranteed coverage, but there may be waiting periods on pre-existing conditions if you have been without insurance for more than 63 days.

You might also try to contact CMS to see if they can make any suggestions. Here is their website http://www.cms.hhs.gov/ContactCMS

  1. Are there any low income health insurance programs available out there that can help me get my medication if I have a preexisting condition? I have been diagnosed with MS since 1.5 years ago and I simply can’t afford to stop taking my special medication. My husband has group insurance but that is very expensive and only covers about half of my medicine costs, which costs over $3000 a month and that means I pay $1500 out of pocket and $500 premiums every month. I can really barely afford it now. I have looked into getting an individual health insurance plan, but I can’t get anyone to accept me with the MS. Are you aware of any health insurance companies that offer low income health insurance for people like me with preexisting conditions? Are there any programs, maybe state, that help with paying for specialty medicine?

I called Cobra Company and they told me that I was under stimulus economic by Obama for 9 months and now it is ended and I have to start paying my regular payments of $ 588.94 monthly in order to have medical coverage for myself. My husband lost his job and now he has a condition than he can not work, he got neuropathy diabetes and is affecting one leg.

I am not driving due to my condition and I got a reposed car because I was not able to make the payments and they reposed my car and also my husband’s car.
