I was employed for 24 years with UPS and due to an injury on the job and a settlement, I was asked to resign. At that time I was also covered by my partners health insurance policy. He lost his job this week and I am wondering at what point is my coverage with his plan ended. I want to make sure I have no lapse in coverage because I have a pre existing condition of rheumatoid arthritis which was covered under my ups plan and under my partners Aetna plan. If I lapse I could very well be denied coverage due to its pre existence. My application with SSDI is still being considered also and I could activate my UPS pension which has an inclusion of Health Benefits. I am 57 years old and taking my early retirement will cost me a 6% penalty every year until I reach normal retirement age of 62. At last sighting, the retirees health policy was over $300 a month
Were you given a COBRA option with UPS? Are you still covered under the Aetna group health plan with UPS? The health benefits under the UPS pension plan may not be the same coverage you had as a full-time employee. This is definitely something you will want to consider. Since you have been covered by two health insurance plans, the coordination of benefits between the two have probably afforded you very comprehensive coverage. Since you are now being required to make premium payment, it may not be in your best interest to maintain two policies. Any additional information you can provide may help me in providing more accurate advice. Answer by Moderator - Friday, October 16, 2009 @ 3:23pm No CommentsNo comments yet. Leave a comment |
