What are the differences between the individual insurance policies that are available in the market today?

For the individual insurance policies, you can choose from Accident Only, Dental, Health Maintenance Organization, Home-Health Care, Hospital and Surgery, Hospital Confinement Indemnity, Limited-Benefit Policy, Long-Term Care, Major Medical, Short-Term, Specified Disease, and Vision policies.  Health insurance policies can be offered to either groups or individuals.

The individual insurance policy classified as Accident Only pays for your visits to the doctor, and covers the expenses of your surgeries and hospitalization.

The Dental policy is a type of individual insurance that pays for the services of your dentists and orthodontists.

Individuals can also get their healthcare coverage from a Health Maintenance Organization or HMO. Individual insurance policies, through the HMO, pay for the services of the healthcare providers that belong in their network – doctors, specialists, and hospitals. The individual insurance policies offered by HMO cover the expenses of your doctors’ visits, any surgery that you might have, hospitalization, and sometimes preventive healthcare. Some HMO policies even offer prescription medicines at lower prices.

Individual insurance classified as Home-Health Care covers the cost of round-the-clock nursing care, on-call doctors or specialists, or healthcare help in the home.

The Hospital and Surgery policy pays for your hospitalization. This type of individual insurance also pays for your laboratory tests, X-rays, surgeries, and the doctors’ professional fees.

The Hospital Confinement Indemnity is a type of individual insurance that provides you with a set rate to cover your daily stay in the hospital.

The Limited-Benefit policy pays for the expenses spent for specific medical conditions.

Long-Term Care is an individual insurance that pays for the healthcare services of people who cannot tend to their personal needs. These are usually the elderly or people with disabilities. These services include meal deliveries, living in residential facilities, and home management.

The Major Medical insurance policy pays for your doctors’ visits, and chronic illnesses. It also pays for your surgery and hospitalization expenses.

The Short-Term policy pays for your healthcare needs but only for a specific time period. This type of individual insurance is usually bought by people who are in-between jobs.

The Specified Disease policy pays for the expenses that you may spend from a single illness. People who incur medical expenses because of their treatments for cancer, AIDS, heart attack, and others usually buy this type of individual insurance. Vision policy pays for any corrections or medications that are needed for your eye care.
