I just moved to Illinois. I used to have BlueCross BlueShield, is HMO Illinois a good choice? Do they have good vision coverage?
As is usual with HMOs, HMO Illinois will have you choose from a list of primary care physicians (PCPs) in your area. You’d have to get approval or a referral from them when you need to see a specialist or another doctor. I think HMO Illinois still has Vision Rider. Depending on your plan, you’d get one eye examination for a year and an allowance for contact lenses or eyeglasses. Good thing is, you don’t need to get a referral from your PCP in case you need to get your glasses updated or anything. You just need to show the provider your HMO ID card. There are other plans from other providers like Cigna, though since you’ve been using BlueCross BlueShield before, you might be more comfortable getting health insurance from their licensee here.
