I need advice on getting health insurance for self employed people. I will be starting my small business soon and am about to lose my health insurance from my employer. Any suggestions on what I can do?
If you still can’t find affordable health insurance for self employed people like you, then you can try getting covered by your spouse’s health insurance. If you have a spouse who works at a company that provides insurance, then maybe you can get yourself or your entire family under that plan. Family health insurance plans usually have lower premium compared to individual plans. But if you’re not able to join an organization to be under a group health plan, or you aren’t covered in your spouse’s health insurance, then your other option to keep being insured is the COBRA continuation coverage. Your employer is required to offer you COBRA should you want to keep the health insurance plan that you currently have. You will have to pay for your part of the premium and the part of the premium your employer pays so that you can keep the policy. Another option for health insurance for self employed people like you is short-term health insurance. Such plans are affordable and can provide coverage from 30 days up to a year which is ample time for you to find the type of health insurance that you need.
