Individual health insurance policies that cover pregnancy are not required in Connecticut. I am 3 months along and need to get insurance for me and my two-year old son. What health insurance company can you recommend which offers individual health plans that cover pregnancy through CT insurance?

Try browsing the Internet for the websites of health insurance companies that offer quotes. Some of these sites provide best health insurance quotes from popular health insurers in the country. Some of them even offer quote comparisons among health insurance providers. I don’t know for sure about CT insurance because I think it’s different in every state.

But before you sign up for one, check the plan’s coverage for pre-existing conditions, pregnancy, deductibles, co-pays, and exclusions, especially for the pre-existing conditions. Inquire how you can use the plan’s deductibles and co-pays during your pregnancy.

The community health center is also another option for you. You might inquire of health insurance companies that offer individual health plans from the center’s case workers.

  1. Health insurance in CT is not guaranteed issue, which means that most insurance companies will deny you coverage for pre-existing medical conditions. The last suggestion from this poster is likely your best option. Even if the insurance companies did accept you with being pregnant, they would place a 12 month exclusion period on your maternity coverage, which wouldn’t much help given the average gestation period of the human. Contact the Medicaid offices in CT to see if you are eligible for benefits based on your income level.

  2. Only one individual health insurance policy in the entire state of Connecticut covers maternity. It’s with Anthem, but you are not eligible because you are already pregnant. As poster said above, the only option for you in CT is Medicaid. Too bad you don’t live in New York, New Jersey or Massachusetts, pretty sure those states don’t allow the insurance companies to exclude maternity coverage in individual plans.
