Are there any cheap health insurance plans out there that I can get? I’m 21 and a full-time student. Health plans being offered by my employer cost around $150 a month, and that’s just outside of my budget. Any suggestions?

If you’re in college, you can check out cheap health insurance plans being offered through your school. There are usually student injury and illness plans in most universities which students can get. These kinds of health plans are designed to be affordable for college students and usually have a wide range of coverage.

You can also try getting a cheap health insurance plan through organizations for college students. Such organizations usually have lots of member benefits including student health insurance. There are membership fees for joining, but they’re generally affordable. You can also try searching for insurance plans that have higher deductibles. With this type of plan, you only have to worry about costs when you have an accident or when you get really sick.

You should also be careful of cheap health insurance plans. Some so-called cheap plans have little coverage, so those plans might not even be worth your money. A monthly premium of $150 for a student might be too much, but you should also think of the benefits. Your employer’s offer may be outside your budget as a full-time student, but it might be worth the premium you pay because of the coverage and benefits.

If you still can’t find a cheap health insurance plan outside of work, you can check with your employer and ask if the company is offering other types of health plans that a student like you can afford.
