I’m pregnant and I have Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance. Can anyone tell me how much of the hospital bill I’ll end up paying if I use my policy? I want to make sure the hospital bills me correctly.
You need to call your obstetrician’s office and ask how much the charges are for a C-Section and a normal delivery. Make sure that the doctor’s office explicitly says that your pre-natal care is included in this charge which your Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance will cover. You should then call Blue Cross Blue Shield. Other individuals who have had to deal with BCBS say that the insurance company is relatively easy to deal with. You should tell the BCBS representative that you are having a baby and would like to know your policy’s coverage for your obstetrician and for a hospital stay. You should ask what percentage of your hospital stay is covered, if what’s covered is subject to a deductible, and what your out-of-pocket limit is for your plan. You should also ask if your Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance plan requires you to ask for a pre-certification. There are several health insurance companies that require pregnant policyholders to call them 48 hours before delivery or the companies won’t pay. You also need to ask how long of a hospital stay is going to be covered, and how you can add your child to your policy after birth.
