I have completed the payments for my Blue Anthem health insurance policy so that I can use the maternity benefits when I deliver my baby in a month’s time. I learned, however, that the price of my plan went up a week after I completed my payment. Do I need to pay the difference in the price of the plan?

In Blue Anthem insurance, you might need to pay the difference in the cost of the plan. As a general practice, the cost of maternity care, especially prenatal and delivery charges, is usually billed after you have used the service. If you pay the difference in the cost of the plan, your policy might not incur interests and penalties. You can readily use the plan’s maternity benefits when you deliver your baby. If you think about it, the cost is not that important compared to the extent of maternity benefits that you can use.

You might also consider the reasons why Blue Anthem insurance increased the cost of the plan. Price increase might be due to increases in the cost of doctors’ fees, and hospital expenses.

If you got Blue Anthem insurance through work, then the cost of the policy for the group plan may have also changed. You can ask your employer if you are enrolled in a new group policy or if the extent of healthcare coverage has increased hence the price difference.

You might try discussing the reasons of the increase with your Blue Anthem insurance agent. There may be additional expenses that you don’t know of which increased the cost of your plan. Check your co-pay or out-of-pocket amounts as these are often the reasons for increased prices of insurance plans.
